Emmet Park
Emmet Park is a beautiful, tree-shaded park on the bluff beside Bay Street — essentially the "front yard" of Olde Harbour Inn. Once known as the "Strand" and later "Irish Green," it was renamed in 1902 for the Irish patriot Robert Emmet (1778–1803) to mark the centennial of his death. A hero to Savannah's Irish community, Emmet led an unsuccessful Dublin uprising for Irish independence.
Ballast stones & cobblestones
In Savannah's early days, the stone ramps connecting Bay Street with River Street were built from English ballast stones — the same stones that gave schooners stability on their voyages from Europe. When discarded, they were repurposed into the walls, stairwells, and walkways you still see today near Olde Harbour Inn.
